There are 13 counties in Eastern Pennsylvania under quarantine for the Spotted Lantern Fly? Damage by this pest is through sucking the sap from trees and crops such as grapes and hops, thus affecting businesses in Pennsylvania. When the SLF feeds, it also excretes a sugary water which encourages the growth of black sooty mold. The mold is harmless to people but can cause damage to the plant. The young SLF hops, adults can fly a little, they do not bite. If you see them on your property, check on-line for ways to manage/ kill them.
Check the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s website for updates.
